MUSYNERGY
MUSYNERGY
Before founding MUSYNERGY in 1993, Daryl Fischer spent 15 years creating innovative education programs at the Denver Art Museum, the Muskegon Museum of Art and the Indianapolis Museum of Art. As a consultant, the scope of her practice has grown to include all types of museums, from botanical gardens to history museums. By focusing on new subject matter, from plant taxonomy to immigration, she’s gained an appreciation of the personal discoveries experienced by museum visitors—many of whom are novices when it comes to your collections.
In working with clients and colleagues, Fischer pushes the envelope to create more active experiences for visitors - experiences that break down museum stereotypes and keep pace with changing expectations. Redefining Successful Interpretation in Art Museums describes the internal culture shift that’s needed to create truly innovative visitor experiences. Kids and Their Grownups, shares new insights on developing dynamic experiences for the whole family. Tapping Into Creativity and Becoming Part of Something Bigger reports on the impact of creative experiences for visitors.
In her work with museum boards, Fischer draws on her own experience serving on numerous nonprofit boards. Fischer is co-author of the four-volume Templates for Trustees, software-based tools that help museum leaders apply best practices to critical governance activities. Building Museum Boards, The Leadership Partnership, Executive Transitions and Strategic Thinking and Planning are available through the Museum Trustee Association and the American Association of Museums. With an MA in Art History and Museum Studies, Fischer also draws on her experience as an architectural space planner and a classroom teacher to develop innovative plans, programs and projects for museums. A strong audience advocate, she is committed to involving visitor feedback in the process of creating MUSYNERGY.
Fischer has been actively involved in the museum profession in the regional and national arenas for 25 years, having served as Vice President of the Visitor Studies Association and Vice President of The Museum Group. She has also represented CARE, the Committee on Audience Research and Evaluation, as one of four judges in AAM’s Excellence in Exhibitions competition.
ABOUT MUSYNERGY
What staff and board members are saying about Musynergy:
“As County Treasurer and trustee of several organizations, I’ve worked on a number of strategic plans but this is the best planning process I’ve ever been involved in. I’m amazed at how such an inclusive, non-intimidating process generated so much substance and consensus. Thank you!”
Board President
"What I most appreciated about the process was the feedback and consensus building and hearing from visitors what’s important to them rather than telling them what we think they should know. In an ideal world we would be doing this with all of our significant projects.”
